Coxing at UEABC
UEABC promotes the development of their coxes just as much as the development of their rowers. From learning to command your crew to being able to steer on challenging courses such as the championship course on the tideway, most of our coxes come to us as total beginners and leave as accomplished and medal winning coxswains. As UEABC’s top boats are coxed, this means that our coxes have to go through the same arduous training sessions as the athletes themselves. Referred to as the “coach in the boat” it is our coxswain’s responsibility to ensure the boat is running most efficiently, calling any necessary changes the athletes need to make. Coxing will develop your confidence as well as your communication skills, being the voice that eight athletes rely on to help win them a race is no small feat.
